From a tiny lovey to a king-size bedspread: pick a standard blanket size or enter your own, add the gauge from your swatch, and the calculator tells you how many stitches wide and how many rows long to make it.

Add your turning chain to the stitch count: 1 chain for single crochet, 2 for half double, 3 for double crochet.
How to measure your gauge
Crochet a swatch at least 6 inches (15 cm) square in the stitch you plan to use. Lay it flat, then count how many stitches and how many rows fit into 4 inches (10 cm) in the middle of the swatch. Enter those two numbers above.
About the starting chain
The result is the number of stitches in each row. Add your turning chain on top: usually 1 extra chain for single crochet, 2 for half double crochet and 3 for double crochet. If your stitch pattern needs a multiple, round to the nearest one.
