Description
Sweet, spicy, creamy, and flaky, these Pepper Jelly & Cream Cheese Pinwheels are an easy appetizer for parties, holidays, game day, brunch boards, and quick snack ideas. Buttery puff pastry wraps around tangy cream cheese, pepper jelly, cheddar, and green onions for a simple finger food that tastes impressive with very little effort.
Ingredients
1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
8 ounces cream cheese, softened
1/3 cup pepper jelly
1/2 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
2 green onions, thinly sliced
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1 large egg
1 tablespoon water
1 tablespoon chopped parsley or chives, optional
Instructions
1. Preheat the oven to 400°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
2. Lightly flour your work surface and roll the thawed puff pastry into an even rectangle.
3. In a bowl, mix the softened cream cheese, cheddar cheese, green onions, garlic powder, and black pepper until smooth.
4. Spread the cream cheese mixture evenly over the puff pastry, leaving a small border along one long edge.
5. Spread the pepper jelly in a thin layer over the cream cheese mixture.
6. Roll the pastry tightly from the long side into a log, then place it seam-side down.
7. Chill the log for 20 minutes so it firms up and slices cleanly.
8. Slice the chilled log into about 20 pinwheels and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
9. Whisk the egg with water, then lightly brush the pinwheels with the egg wash.
10. Bake for 16 to 20 minutes, or until puffed, golden, and crisp.
11. Let the pinwheels cool for 5 minutes, then garnish with parsley or chives if desired and serve warm.
Notes
Keep the puff pastry cold while working with it so the layers bake up flaky and crisp.
Do not use too much pepper jelly, or it may leak out during baking. A thin layer gives the best texture.
Chill the rolled pastry before slicing for cleaner spirals and less messy pinwheels.
