Description

These Easy Southern Candied Sweet Potatoes are a classic comfort food side dish with sweet, buttery flavor and perfectly caramelized edges. Roasted instead of boiled, these potatoes develop a rich glaze from brown sugar, butter, cinnamon, and nutmeg—ideal for holidays, potlucks, or Sunday dinner. This is a foolproof, easy recipe that delivers homemade flavor with minimal effort. Perfect for cozy dinner ideas, quick Thanksgiving sides, or a sweet yet savory addition to your easy dinner table.

Ingredients

4 medium sweet potatoes

1/2 cup unsalted butter

1 cup brown sugar

1 teaspoon cinnamon

1/2 teaspoon nutmeg

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

1. Peel the sweet potatoes and slice into 1/2-inch thick rounds.

2. Melt butter in a saucepan and stir in brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Heat until the sugar is dissolved.

3. Arrange sweet potatoes in a 9×13-inch baking dish. Pour the butter mixture over them and coat well.

4. Bake uncovered at 375°F for 50–60 minutes, flipping halfway through, until tender and glazed.

5. Remove from oven and stir in vanilla extract while still hot. Toss gently to coat.

Notes

Cut sweet potatoes evenly so they cook at the same rate.

Use dark brown sugar for a deeper molasses flavor.

Let the dish rest 10 minutes after baking so the glaze sets.
