Description

A rich, smooth, and glossy chocolate syrup like this turns simple treats into something special in minutes. It is perfect for quick breakfast ideas, easy dessert toppings, homemade chocolate milk, coffee drinks, and fun food ideas when you want an easy recipe made from pantry staples.

This easy homemade chocolate syrup comes together on the stove with cocoa powder, sugar, water, vanilla, and salt for a deep chocolate flavor and silky texture. Use it for breakfast ideas like pancakes and waffles, drizzle it over ice cream, or keep it in the fridge for sweet snack and dinner ideas when you want a simple homemade touch.

Ingredients

1 cup water

3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

1 cup granulated sugar

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

1. In a small saucepan, whisk together the cocoa powder, granulated sugar, and salt until evenly combined.

2. Slowly pour in the water while whisking so the cocoa blends smoothly without lumps.

3. Place the saucepan over medium heat and cook, whisking often, until the mixture begins to simmer.

4. Let the syrup simmer gently for 3 to 5 minutes, stirring often, until it looks glossy and slightly thickened.

5. Remove the saucepan from the heat and stir in the vanilla extract.

6. Let the chocolate syrup cool for 10 to 15 minutes.

7. Pour the cooled syrup into a clean jar or bottle and refrigerate until ready to use.

Notes

Whisk the dry ingredients well before adding water so the cocoa dissolves more smoothly.

The syrup thickens as it cools, so do not overcook it if you want a pourable texture.

Store it in the fridge and stir or shake before serving if it settles slightly.
