Ingredients
2 cups whole milk
1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
3 tablespoons granulated sugar
4 large scoops vanilla ice cream
2 tablespoons chocolate syrup, divided
1 tablespoon chocolate shavings, divided
Whipped cream, for garnish
2 ounces Irish cream liqueur or coffee liqueur (Optional)
Instructions
1. Prepare two clear glass mugs by drizzling half of the chocolate syrup down the inside walls. Set aside.
2. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, whisk together the whole milk, unsweetened cocoa powder, and granulated sugar until dissolved and steaming hot.
3. Working quickly, place two scoops of vanilla ice cream into each prepared mug.
4. If using, add one ounce of liqueur to each mug. immediately pour the hot cocoa mixture over the ice cream.
5. Top generously with whipped cream, drizzle with the remaining chocolate syrup, and sprinkle with chocolate shavings. Serve immediately.
Notes
For the best flavor and texture, use whole milk and high-quality vanilla bean ice cream.
