Description
These Cute Crescent Roll Carrots are a flaky, creamy, party-ready appetizer that brings instant charm to spring brunch, Easter recipes, baby showers, and easy food ideas for gatherings. Made with buttery crescent dough, a savory cream cheese filling, and fresh herb tops, this easy recipe is a fun appetizer idea that looks adorable on a platter and tastes just as good as it looks.
Ingredients
1 can refrigerated crescent roll dough
1 large egg
8 drops orange food coloring
8 ounces cream cheese, softened
1/4 cup sour cream
1 tablespoon ranch seasoning
1/2 cup finely shredded cheddar cheese
2 tablespoons finely sliced green onions
1/2 cup fresh parsley or dill sprigs
1 teaspoon nonstick cooking spray
Instructions
1. Preheat the oven to 375°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Lightly spray cream horn molds or sturdy foil cones with nonstick cooking spray.
2. Unroll the crescent dough and press seams together if needed. Cut the dough into long strips.
3. Wrap each strip around a cone mold, starting near the pointed end and slightly overlapping the dough as you work upward.
4. Whisk the egg with orange food coloring until smooth, then lightly brush the tinted egg wash over the wrapped dough.
5. Place the wrapped cones on the baking sheet and bake for 10 to 12 minutes, or until puffed, set, and golden orange.
6. Let the pastry cool for a few minutes, then carefully slide the shells off the molds. Cool completely before filling.
7. Beat the cream cheese and sour cream together until smooth. Stir in ranch seasoning, cheddar cheese, and green onions.
8. Spoon or pipe the filling into each cooled crescent carrot shell.
9. Tuck parsley or dill sprigs into the wide end of each carrot and serve chilled or at cool room temperature.
Notes
Let the crescent shells cool completely before filling so the cream cheese mixture does not soften the pastry too quickly.
Store the baked shells and filling separately if making them ahead, then assemble shortly before serving.
Use a thick filling and pat any added vegetables dry to keep the pastry from becoming soggy.
