Description
Crispy Asparagus Asiago Spears are a quick appetizer, easy side dish, and fresh vegetable recipe that brings together tender asparagus, bold Asiago cheese, and a golden crunchy coating. This easy recipe is perfect for dinner ideas, party food ideas, holiday sides, and simple snack recipes when you want something crisp, cheesy, and full of flavor without much effort.
Ingredients
1 lb asparagus, trimmed
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
2 large eggs
3/4 cup plain breadcrumbs
3/4 cup finely grated Asiago cheese
1 tsp garlic powder
1/4 tsp black pepper
1/4 tsp salt
olive oil spray
Instructions
1. Preheat the oven to 425°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
2. Wash the asparagus, pat it completely dry, and trim off the woody ends.
3. Place the flour in one shallow bowl. Beat the eggs in a second bowl. In a third bowl, mix the breadcrumbs, Asiago cheese, garlic powder, black pepper, and salt.
4. Dip each asparagus spear into the flour first, then into the beaten eggs, and finally into the breadcrumb and Asiago mixture, pressing lightly so the coating sticks.
5. Arrange the coated spears in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet. Lightly spray the tops with olive oil.
6. Bake for 12 to 15 minutes, or until the asparagus is tender and the coating is golden and crisp.
7. Serve immediately while hot and crunchy.
Notes
Patting the asparagus dry helps the coating stick better and crisp up in the oven.
Medium-thickness asparagus works best because it stays tender without overcooking too fast.
Reheat leftovers in the oven or air fryer instead of the microwave to keep the coating crisp.
