Description

Lasagna on Christmas Eve is a cherished tradition in many homes—a dish rich in flavor, family memories, and soul-warming comfort. Our Christmas Eve Lasagna is a hearty, cheesy, baked masterpiece made with layers of meat sauce, creamy ricotta, gooey mozzarella, and tender noodles. It’s the perfect crowd-pleasing dish to gather around on a festive winter night.

Ingredients

1 pound ground beef

1 pound Italian sausage

1 onion, chopped

3 cloves garlic, minced

28 ounces crushed tomatoes

6 ounces tomato paste

2 tablespoons olive oil

1 tablespoon dried basil

1 teaspoon dried oregano

1 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon black pepper

15 ounces ricotta cheese

1 egg

1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

16 ounces mozzarella cheese, shredded

12 lasagna noodles (or enough for 3 layers, cooked if not no-boil)

Instructions

1. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add chopped onions and minced garlic, cooking until soft.

2. Add ground beef and Italian sausage, browning until no longer pink. Drain excess fat.

3. Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, basil, oregano, salt, and pepper. Simmer 20–25 minutes.

4. In a bowl, combine ricotta cheese, egg, 1/4 cup Parmesan, a pinch of salt and pepper. Mix until smooth.

5. If using regular noodles, boil in salted water until al dente. Drain and lay flat on a towel.

6. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). In a 9×13-inch dish, spread a thin layer of sauce.

7. Add a layer of noodles, ricotta mixture, mozzarella, and more sauce. Repeat for 3 layers.

8. Top with remaining sauce, mozzarella, and the rest of the Parmesan.

9. Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes. Uncover and bake 20 more minutes until bubbly.

10. Let rest 10–15 minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

This lasagna can be assembled 1 day ahead and baked before serving.

Let it rest before cutting to avoid messy slices.

Use spicy sausage for a flavor kick or add a layer of spinach for extra veg.
