Description

Candy Cane Brownie Bombs are a fun, bite-sized holiday dessert that combines fudgy brownies, creamy truffle centers, and a crisp peppermint coating for the ultimate Christmas dessert ideas. This easy recipe is perfect for parties, potlucks, and dessert boards when you want simple but impressive holiday dessert ideas and festive food ideas without spending all day in the kitchen.

Ingredients

1 box (18–19 oz) fudge brownie mix

2 large eggs

1/3 cup vegetable oil

3 tablespoons water

4 ounces cream cheese, softened

1/2 cup chocolate frosting

2 cups semisweet chocolate chips

2 teaspoons coconut oil or vegetable shortening (optional, for melting chocolate)

3/4 cup finely crushed candy canes

1/4 cup white chocolate chips, melted (optional drizzle)

Instructions

1. Prepare the brownie batter by combining the fudge brownie mix with the eggs, vegetable oil, and water in a large bowl, mixing just until smooth.

2. Spread the batter into a parchment-lined baking pan and bake according to the package directions, or until the edges are set and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with moist crumbs.

3. Let the brownies cool completely in the pan, then transfer them to a large mixing bowl and crumble them into fine, even crumbs with your hands or a fork.

4. Add the softened cream cheese and chocolate frosting to the brownie crumbs and mix until everything is evenly combined and the mixture holds together like a soft dough when pressed.

5. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper, scoop out about 1 tablespoon of the brownie mixture at a time, and roll it between your palms into smooth balls. Arrange the balls on the prepared baking sheet.

6. Chill the brownie balls in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes or in the freezer for about 15 minutes, until firm enough to handle easily for dipping.

7. Place the candy canes in a zip-top bag and crush them with a rolling pin until you have a mix of fine crumbs and small bits, then pour the crushed candy canes into a shallow bowl.

8. In a microwave-safe bowl, combine the semisweet chocolate chips and coconut oil or shortening and melt in short bursts, stirring between each, until smooth and fluid.

9. Working with a few chilled brownie balls at a time, use a fork or dipping tool to lower each ball into the melted chocolate, letting excess chocolate drip back into the bowl before placing the coated balls on the parchment-lined baking sheet.

10. Immediately sprinkle the tops of the wet chocolate coating with crushed candy canes so they adhere before the chocolate sets, then repeat with the remaining brownie balls.

11. If desired, melt the white chocolate chips and drizzle the set brownie bombs with thin zigzags of white chocolate for a decorative finish.

12. Refrigerate the tray for 15–20 minutes, or until the chocolate shells are firm to the touch, then transfer the Candy Cane Brownie Bombs to an airtight container until ready to serve.

Notes

For the best texture, use a fudgy brownie mix and avoid over-baking so the brownies stay moist enough to crumble and bind into smooth balls.

If the brownie mixture feels too dry to roll, add a little extra frosting, a teaspoon at a time, until it holds together; if it feels too sticky, chill it briefly before rolling.

Candy Cane Brownie Bombs keep well in the refrigerator for several days and can be frozen for longer storage, making them a great make-ahead Christmas dessert for busy holiday weeks.
